More sailboats! :D HEH.

Before class ended though, Miss Lisa told us all to stop sketching entirely.

YUP.

She asked us to look for interesting / inspiring references from anywhere at all, and bring them to class on Monday.

She wanted us to start with a clear mind and look at different kinds of references.

I already have some references ready and we shall all start sketching on Monday! WHEEE! :D

Stay tuned! ^.^

Monograms! :D

Hey guyssss! ^.^

Guess what this new assignment is?!

YES, MONOGRAMSSSSS!

MY OWN MONOGRAM.

I get to design my own monogram!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Basically we have to sketch about 12-20 ideas and show them to Miss Lisa in the next class ^.^

Our monograms should be designed based on our own initials.

Omg this is actually really exciting :D

I mean, you’re like designing your own logo / brand! C:

Here are some examples of monograms if you guys don’t know what it is.

Stay tuned! ^.^

What’s Your Square? : Final Products + Mini Exhibition

Hey guyssss ^.^

So when we went to the studio the other day, the architecture students actually stayed overnight in the studio and did their projects and the whole studio was filled with cardboard and things like sandwich boxes, cup noodles, etc.

We told Miss Lisa, who hasn’t arrived yet at the time, and she told us to take the challenge and exhibit our works in the most creative way possible.

We started stacking chairs and tables along the corridor (not in the studio, outside) where a lot of people were walking by.

We then placed our works on the tables or chairs that we stacked.

(Don’t worry if you don’t understand because there will be photos!) ^.^

Anyways, when Miss Lisa arrived, she was surprised at what we did because she actually meant ‘try to be creative with displaying your works inside the studio’.

HAHAHAHAA.

But we continued the little exhibition outside though since it was actually pretty creative.

So here are photos of the mini exhibition!

What’s Your Square? : Exhibition Postponed :C

Hey peopleee :)

As you can tell by the title, our little exhibition of our works in class was postponed.

Miss Lisa couldn’t make it as there was heavy rains and accidents and traffic jams. :C

But anyways, we actually already started arranging stuff around and I only managed to take photos of some of my classmates works so here they are! ^.^

What’s Your Square? : Work In Progress

Hey guyssss :D

Since my designs were already confirmed, I could start on cutting them out!

I first transferred the designs on red coloured paper.

IMG_1954

IMG_1953

Then I started cutting them out.

After this I shall paste them on the mounting boards and start expanding the square!

I will not show you the end products yet but here’s a little sneak peak! :)

What’s Your Square? : Ideas confirmed

Hey guysss :)

So I brought my ideas to class and asked the question that has been bugging me.

Apparently the symmetrical design meant that the design INSIDE the square had to be symmetrical.

Oh and the design with the barn and the two horses was confirmed.

So I had to sketch another design that was symmetrical as the confirmed design was asymmetrical and my other sketches were also asymmetrical.

This was my initial idea for the symmetrical design.

IMG_1955

It’s a warrior horse, and yes, it’s mane is supposed to be on both sides but as this was only the trial version, I didn’t complete it.

I showed it to Miss Lisa and she decided maybe I should do a front portrait of a horse.

After much sketching, Miss Lisa confirmed my Trojan horse sketch.

So here are the two confirmed final sketches ^.^

IMG_1951

Two horses and a barn + Trojan Horses (There are both sides to horses, the soft and the mysterious side) (I guess that’s how humans are too. We all have both sides.)

I guess the next step is to do some cutting mat work! ^.^

What’s Your Square? : New Idea

Hey guysss ^.^

As I mentioned before, I wanted to do something else instead of that magician guy.

Initially I started with a lot of different sketches and I didn’t have a specific theme yet.

Here are photos of my initial sketches. :)

IMG_1960

IMG_1959

After thinking for a while, I thought of horses.

I started drawing horses and even cutting them out.

IMG_1956

Then, I decided to use ‘Horses’ as my theme.

I continued sketching more ideas but with the theme horses.

IMG_1962

Not sure if you can see, but there’s basically horses facing off, and then there’s horses running hahaha.

IMG_1961

This idea is a barn and two horses snuggling each other and yeah, some birds haha.

I wanted to create two different sides of the horses.

One was more of like the soft side, and the other the wild / fighter side.

We had to make one design symmetrical and the other design asymmetrical.

Problem was, I didn’t know if symmetrical meant the element inside the square was supposed to be symmetrical or when the square is expanded, the designs have to be symmetrical.

So I decided to sketch different ideas and show them to Miss Lisa in the next class.

Stay tuned! ^.^

Annabel.

What’s your square? :D

Heyyy :)

Sooo, for this assignment, we are supposed to think out of the box and make a square not look like a square, but is still a square.

^.^

Yes, I just said it.

A square that is a square but does not look like a square. :D

The only thing that we have to keep in mind is to make sure the square has some sort of motion / movement to it.

During class, we started sketching out our ideas and here is my progress :

IMG_1947

This was my very first sketch. I thought of maybe using 4 squares to create this skeleton magician.

I showed it to Miss Lisa and she asked me to narrow it down and use only one square instead.

IMG_1948

And then I came up with this. It’s the skeleton magician again, but only his head this time.

IMG_1950

I then did a larger and more detailed sketch for it.

But after some second thoughts, I didn’t really want to make this idea into my final product.

I want to make something that doesn’t reflect me.

I feel like all this time I’ve been only staying in my comfort zone.

I also needed to add motion to my square,

I think I’m going to change up my ideas.

I don’t want any ‘cute’ or ‘annabel’ elements in it.

I want something fresh and new.

Something different from what I usually do.

Stay tuned to see what I come up with :)

STENCILS : Stamping Using Sponges and Chinese Ink.

Heyy peoplee ^.^

A week ago, on Wednesday, we brought Chinese Ink and sponges to class to start stamping out our stencils.

Most of my stencils only fit the bigger lanterns and they require a specific paper size, (meaning I’ll have to cut out a specific size of paper in order to stamp my stencils) so I decided to start on two of my stencils that fit on the A4 size lanterns.

IMG_1869

These are the two stencils that fit into the A4 size lanterns ^.^

(The front views of the peacock and the elephant.)

IMG_1870

I decided to start stamping the elephant first.

It was actually really hard to get a perfect stencil as the ink kept seeping through the holes and made smudges here and there.

I decided to stop at that and maybe get some help in the next class.

The day before the next 2D class though, Miss Lisa informed everyone to bring their cutting mats, coloured paper, and cutters.

We will now put the floating exhibition aside and start on our actual assignments. :)

YAY! *\(^.^)/*

Annabel.

LANTERNS : Measure, Cut, Assemble.

Hey guysss ^.^

So for the whole week we have been busy making lanterns for the floating exhibition.

We were all divided into groups and were given tasks like :

-Lantern measurements

-Styrofoam measurements

-Lantern cutting

-Styrofoam cutting

-Lantern construction

Every week, we will have two classes for 2D Design.

For the first class of last week, I cut out lanterns for awhile but then the lanterns started building up and no one was given the task to assemble them.

Sooo, me and Jamie (^.^) decided to start assembling the lanterns!

And then that became my task for the second class of the week also :)

We were all working as a class it almost seemed like the studio became a lantern making factory.

I SWEAR IT WAS SO COOOL HAHAHA.

Our initial goal was to make about 150 lanterns, but then we toned it down to 120.

But we now have 110 lanterns (and that’s where we’re planning to stop haha), ALL ASSEMBLED AND READY TO BE MOUNTED ON THE STYROFOAMS! ^.^

Here are some photos I took of us making the lanterns!

(They were taken from my phone, so excuse the bad quality and composition :P)
